“I Don’t Want Britain To Be Poor Like Nigeria - Kemi Badenoch

By Informationng

Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the United Kingdom’s (UK) Conservative Party, has expressed her desire to prevent Britain from suffering the same fate as her country of origin, Nigeria.

Badenoch, who is the first black woman to lead a major UK party, made these comments during her first speech of the year at an event organized by Onward, a British think tank.

She reflected on her personal experiences, saying, “And why does this matter so much to me? It’s because I know what it is like to have something and then to lose it.

“I don’t want Britain to lose what it has. I grew up in a poor country and watched my relatively wealthy family become poorer and poorer, despite working harder and harder as their money disappeared with inflation.”

Badenoch also shared her story of migrating to the UK at the age of 16 with her father’s last £100, seeking a better life.

She emphasized, “So I have lived with the consequences of terrible governments that destroy lives, and I never, ever want it to happen here.”

Her steady comments have continuously sparked criticism from Nigerian leaders, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, who had accused Badenoch of “constantly denigrating” her homeland.

However, a spokesperson for Badenoch clarified that she is not interested in laundering Nigeria’s image.

My Take

If Kemi Badenoch is Igbo and making such vitriolic comments against Nigeria consistently, some misguided and small-minded Yoruba bigots will label her as IPOB member. I'm not condemning Yoruba Nation - God forbid. Just some of them, who see nothing good in other people and nothing bad with them.

She can't denigrate Nigeria because she wants to be a successful politician in Britain. It doesn't work like that. Nigeria is not the issue in the UK. There are economic, political, racial, religious and other issues confronting the country she intends to lead. I expected her to talk on how to tackle those issues. Honestly, I don't see her going far politically and will soon crash into the dustbin of irrelevant history as an atheist she is. Kemi Badenoch will never be the Prime Minister of the UK - mark my words.
