OWERRI ZONE SENATORIAL PRIMARY ELECTION: HON. LUCY ULOAKU OGUZIE REJECTS IMPOSITION OF CONSENSUS CANDIDATE, CALLS FOR A FREE AND FAIR SENATORIAL PRIMARY ELECTION

              Hon. Uloaku Oguzie

I, Honourable Lucy Uloaku Oguzie, who is vying for office at the Senate in 2023, representing Imo East Senatorial Constituency has strongly rejected every attempt by the Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC) to impose a Senatorial consensus candidate at Owerri Zone Senatorial District, at the ongoing senatorial primary election in Owerri, the Imo State capital, against my wish and the wishes of most of the candidates contesting for the same position.

I am an indigene of Umuokpo Emeabiam, in Owerri West Local Government Area and have thrown myself into the political sphere, following all due processes and procedures in all stages of the electoral process.

I wish to state that I have concluded my sensitisation and campaign, toured the LGA areas of my constituency and met with constituents, traditional rulers, and party members and for me to learn that there are discussions about a consensus candidate is both atrocious and outrageous.

I wish to also state that I and my campaign team have been at the Secretariat of APC in Imo State, since the morning of today, the 28th of May, and waited for the start of the Senatorial Prinary  election, all to no avail and I am astounded that there are rumours and discussions of a consensus candidate and no one, not even from the State party has consulted me or advised me to step down for any candidate.

I am totally bewildered about when, where, and how the conversation of a consensus candidate emanated from.

I want to emphatically state that I was not consulted and did not affirm to any consensus candidate as a primary election has always been what I have envisaged as the right and proper way, procedure and manner to produce the next Senator in Owerri Zone, under the flagship of the APC.

I have spent time, money, energy, resources in sensitisation, buying the Senatorial forms and campaigning, only to find out about discussions of a possible consensus. This is not only ludicrous but wrong.

His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodinma has advocated for a free, fair, credible, and transparent election and this is a far cry from what is being presently witnessed in Imo State.

The idea of a consensus is meant to be an agreement of, and for all candidates to step down for a particular candidate and this has not been the case in Owerri Zone Senatorial District.

I will like to voice my disdain and displeasure at the talk of a consensus at the state party level without any consultation and due process which has already been rejected by other aspirants.

I want to formally petition the APC Chairman, His Excellency, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC Party to seriously investigate this matter and stop the gang up of the fraudulent and sham imposition of a consensus candidate and for the APC NWC to direct the state party to conduct a fair, transparent and credible Senatorial Primary Election.

The right thing, at this juncture, will be to carry out a Primary election as it is done in most States of the federation and elect a credible candidate who will represent the good people of Imo East Senatorial Constituents at the Constituency, State and National levels.

SIGNED.

Honourable Lucy Uloaku Oguzie

Imo Tourism Identity Logo Contest kicks off June 1

                        Mazi Ohia

The Imo State Government under the leadership of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has opened the Imo State Tourism Identity Logo Design Contest.

Speaking to newsmen during a brief ceremony to mark the opening in his office at the State Secretariat, Owerri, over the weekend, the Hon. Commissioner for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mazi Uche Ohia, Ph.D said that the contest was in fulfilment of the promise he made at the 2022 World Creativity and Innovation Day Ceremony, held at the International Exhibition Centre, Owerri on April 21, 2022 to throw the field open for Imolites to have an opportunity to create a tourism brand identity logo for the State.

He stated that government is projecting and promoting Imo State as an irresistible tourism destination and that a bold and attractive tourism logo is required to make the job easier. He said that the Ministry is focused on creating a brand identity for Imo Tourism to facilitate smooth tourism marketing aimed at increasing tourists traffic to Imo State.

The Tourism Commissioner said that despite the prevailing insecurity in the country, Imo State still held the flag as the major hub of tourism and hospitality in Southern Nigeria and a safe place to relax and recreate in relative tranquility.

He said: "With a wide choice of exquisite hotels, eateries, lounges, shops, nightclubs, cinemas, travel agencies, event centres, etc  Imo has the best places to stay, to wine and dine, to hangout and to hold conferences".

According to Mazi Ohia: "Imo State is blessed with a natural location that is almost equidistant to all Southern Nigerian cities, numerous tertiary institutions, memorable tourist sites, the only surviving Zoo and wildlife park, breathtaking lakes, ecotourism sites and a tourism-friendly government that has prioritized security, infrastructure development and urban regeneration".

The Tourism Commissioner declared that as the government was trying its best to create an enabling environment for tourism to thrive, Imo people had a duty to complement the efforts of government by using every opportunity to promote the tourism potentials of the state and by desisting from demarketing the State in any form or manner especially on social media.

He said that a brand identity reflective of the USP (Unique Selling Point) of the state would help greatly in massive tourism promotion. That, he said, is the aim of the Tourism Logo Contest.

Mazi Uche Ohia stated that after wide research, consultations and considerations, the Ministry had settled for "Endless Hospitality" as the USP on which to anchor the logo of Imo State as a brand identity.

He invited all Imo indigenes everywhere in the world with a flair for graphics or designing to take advantage of the contest and come up with a suitable tourism brand logo not only to help make Imo the travel destination of choice but also to take part of the credit by writing their name in gold for posterity.

Prizes set aside for winners include N200,000 for the first prize, N100,000 for the second prize and N50,000 for the third prize. Certificates of participation will also be issued to contestants. The contest opens on June 1, 2022 and closes on June 30, 2022. Entry details are contained in the Tourism Logo  Contest Publication released by the Ministry.

Real Madrid have become European champions for a record 14th time after beating Liverpool 1-0 in a Champions League final that started 37 minutes late because of disturbing crowd issues outside the Stade de France.

Brazil winger Vinicius Junior scored a brilliant goal in the 59th minute from Federico Valverde's drive across the face of goal, securing a win that gave Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti a record fourth European Cup title.

WORDS ON MARBLE

                                Peter Obi

"I came  to offer my services to Nigerians free of charge through the Platform of PDP, but PDP decided to sell it to the highest bidder, I did not steal government money and I have no intentions of stealing it in the future . Nigerians have suffered so much as a result of this type of politics of buying political offices .  This is the reason why Nigerians can not hold their leaders accountable for failure, because they have sold their right to good governance over a morsel of bread. I left PDP in other to change this narrative"

(Health)Getting stuck during s3x is not caused by "magun," witch doctor

                  Stuck in the act

According to medical experts, It is possible for a penis to get stuck inside a vagina during intercourse. This condition is called penis captivus, and it is a rare occurrence.

The penis becoming stuck in the vagina is one possible outcome of a condition called vaginismus, in which the vagina involuntarily closes due to muscle spasms in the pelvic floor. If penis captivus occurs, the effect is likely very temporary

Kimberly Holland, says it is unclear how often penis captivus occurs because couples may be able to disconnect from one another before medical attention is necessary. And they may never report the incident to a doctor.

In the event that you find yourself unable to disengage from intercourse, it is important to stay calm.

How does it happen?

For penis captivus to occur, a series of events during sex must take place. The penis, which fills with blood during an erection, may continue to grow in size before orgasm. The vagina’s walls, which are made of muscular tissue, expand and contract during sex. The muscles inside the vagina may pulse slightly during an orgasm, too.

On occasion, the vaginal muscles may contract more than typical. These contractions can narrow the vaginal opening. This narrowing could prevent a man from removing his penis, especially if he is still engorged and erect.

After orgasm, the vaginal muscles will begin to relax. If the man also reaches orgasm, the blood will begin to drain from his penis, and the erection will ease. You may be able to remove the penis from the vagina as these events occur.

Most people who experience penis captivus can expect to be stuck together for just a few seconds. Staying calm and letting the muscles relax will help you unhook from each other.

Penis captivus is one manifestation of vaginismus. Vaginismus is a strict contraction of the vagina’s muscles that is so strong, the vagina essentially closes itself. When this occurs, a woman may be unable to have intercourse. It can also prevent medical exams.

What does it feel like?

Typical vaginal contractions may be pleasurable for the man. The increased pressure around the penis may intensify sensations. However, if your penis becomes stuck inside the vagina, the pleasing pressure may not be pleasant enough to overrule the worry about your predicament.

Penis captivus is unlikely to hurt you or your partner. As the erection eases, the pressure on the penis will fall, and any discomfort should stop. Likewise, as the contractions end, the muscles should relax enough for the vaginal opening to return to a normal size.

While you are stuck together, it is important you do not do anything that could hurt you or cause additional pain. That means you should try to forcibly pry yourself from your partner. Additional lubrication is also unlikely to fix the situation.

Instead, try to remain calm and let the muscles relax on their own. While it may feel much longer, most couples will only be stuck for a few seconds.

In 1979, the British Medical Journal published a story about the allusive sexual snag. They quoted two nineteenth century gynecologists who claimed first-hand experience with penis captivus.

The next year, the medical journal published a response from a reader that claimed to have been present when a couple was brought to the local hospital for the condition.

More recently, in 2016, a reputable Kenyan television channel ran a news segment that featured a couple, who was carried to a local witch doctor after becoming stuck.

What should I do if it happens to me?

If you are hard in the act and find you and your partner cannot disconnect, it is important to remain calm. Panicking can lead to forcefully attempting to withdraw the penis, and that can lead to more pain and discomfort.

Most couples will only be stuck for a few seconds, so give yourself a break from the action. Take a few deep breaths, and the muscles will likely relax for you.

In the event that you remain stuck after a few minutes, call for emergency medical attention. A doctor or healthcare provider may be able to inject a muscle relaxer into you or your partner to help ease the contractions.

If this keeps happening, make a point to tell your doctor at your next visit. They may want to look for possible underlying conditions, such as vaginismus or blood flow problems, that could contribute to the unusual situation.

Penis captivus is a rare condition. It happens to dogs too.  Indeed, most couples will never experience it  but if you do, remember to remain calm. Do not panic and do not try to disengage from your partner.

Forcing could hurt the two of you, which will only make the situation worse. Most couples will be able to separate after a few seconds, or a few minutes. While it may be uncomfortable, stop the action and wait it out. You will be unhooked shortly. It is neither juju nor evil spirit.

Peter Obi states reasons for dumping PDP

 By our correspondent

                            Peter Obi

Former governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi, shocked the nation Wednesday when he announced his exit from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

However the reason for decision to quit the PDP was expressed in a resignation letter addressed to the National Chairman of the party.

In the letter, sighted by Nigerian Academic Excellence Magazine, Obi gave reasons for his withdrawal from the presidential race.

According to him, recent developments within the PDP made it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions.

“Our national challenges are deep-seated and require that we each make profound sacrifices towards rescuing our country. My commitment to rescuing Nigeria remains firm, even if the route differs," Obi said.

Obi's  resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2. Anaocha LGA, Anambra, took effect Friday 20 May, 2022.

How to unblock your MTN, GLO, AIRTEL AND 9MOBILE SIM Cards Over NIN

By Omooba Alekuwodo

NIN Linkage to SIM Cards

Many Phone numbers in Nigeria, today, have been barred from making calls but they can receive calls. This is basically because the owners of the SIM Cards have not successfully linked their SIM Cards to their National Identification Number (NIN).

National Identification Number (NIN) has been a unique number that is being assigned to every citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with the aim of keeping their biometric data and raw facts, in case of emergencies. Purposely, the NIN was mandated to be linked to the SIM Cards of the citizens, so as to reduce the issues of Kidnapping, terrorism and other insecurity menaces that are being aided with phone calls.

It may assist the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Security personnel to be able to accurately identify the owner of a particular SIM Card that is being used to make call for ransoms or conducting any form of other security hazards.

However, if your SIM cards have been blocked for this cause, it is not a big deal. It could be resolved, amicably before the Federal Government of Nigeria proceed to unveil a bigger sanction on the defaulters.

Reactivating your SIM Card would require the following:

Irrespective of the network provider whose SIM Card you are using, it is necessary that you approach any NIN Registration center to first register yourself with the NIN. Then, a 11-digit National Identification Number would be generated and assigned to you.

It is important to recall that, presently, there are many decentralised enrolment centers across the country. This includes Banks, NIN Offices at Local Government and State levels; and many accredited Computer Centers for NIN enrolment.

Depending on your choice of mobile network provider, you can now link your NIN to your SIM Card by using any of the following USSD codes.

MTN Users

For the users of MTN Mobile, kindly dial *785# on your phone using the affected MTN SIM Card, follow the prompt and supply your 11-digit National Identification Number where it requested for it.

However, you can simply dial *785*YOUR_NIN# directly from the phone number you want to link and your NIN would be automatically submitted for linkage.

Alternatively, you can link your NIN to your SIM Card using this link on your mobile phone or computer https://mtnonline.com/nim/ You would be asked to submit your name, mtn number, NIN and email address. Submit the form.

Await a SMS from the MTN, anytime after they must have successfully link your NIN to your SIM Cards.

According to the new directive, one NIN can only be linked to the maximum of 10 phone numbers.

Airtel Users

If you are using airtel SIM card, the above code would certainly not work for you, in the course of linking your NIN to your SIM card. You can however link you NIN to your SIM card by following these steps.

Dial *121# on the airtel SIM card you want to link to your NIN.

Press 1 for your "NIN Capture" and submit.

Enter your 11-digit NIN and submit.

Await a SMS from the MTN, anytime after they must have successfully link your NIN to your SIM Cards.

GLO Users

If you are using GLO SIM Cards, kindly, dial *109*YOUR_NIN#

Await a SMS from the MTN, anytime after they must have successfully link your NIN to your SIM Cards.

9Mobile

If you are using 9Mobile SIM Cards, kindly, dial *200*8# you would be prompted to supply your NIN. Do, and send.

Await a SMS from the MTN, anytime after they must have successfully linked your NIN to your SIM Cards.

On 9Mobile, you can dial, *346# to confirm the status of your SIM Card linkage to the NIN.

OHANEZE spits fire, brimstone, warns Nigeria

COMMUNIQUE OF THE OHANAEZE YOUTH  COUNCIL (OYC)  AT THE END OF HER NATIONAL EXPANDED EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETING HELD IN ENUGU  THIS  DAY 20TH MAY, 2022  FOR CRITICAL EVALUATION OF NIGERIA'S PRESIDENT OF SOUTHEAST EXTRACTION PROJECT 2023.

THE COUNCIL AGREED THAT ALL PERCEIVED CONSPIRACIES TO DENY SOUTHEAST  PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANTS OF APC AND PDP THE  TICKETS OF THE LEADING POLITICAL PARTIES WILL CAUSE A TOTAL BOYCOTT OF 2023 GENERAL ELECTION BY NDIGBO AND MAY ENCOURAGE THE CALL FOR SEPERATION OF NDIGBO FROM NIGERIA.

The Communique reads:

1. In view of the recent conspiracy and political permutations against Ndigbo, (the South East extraction of the Nigerian formation) the apex Igbo Youth organization of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ohanaeze Youth Council, (OYC) hereby issues stringent advice to the leadership of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC ) as well as that of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to jettison any plan or attempt to deny presidential aspirants from South-East the candidacy for both APC and PDP in the next 2023  presidential election as this may  finally bring a sudden end to Nigeria as one united entity.

2. Furthermore, we declare that if APC and  PDP deny Southeast presidential aspirants their political party tickets, there will be total lockdown in Igbo land on 25th February 2023 which is the day of the Presidential  and National Assembly elections. Also a total lockdown will take place on 11th March 2023 which is the day of Governorshisp and State Houses of Assembly elections as the elections are not in the interest of Ndi Igbo.

3. To this effect, Ndigbo will bycott 2023 general elections if APC and PDP deny Southeast presidential aspirants tickets as this will be an indication that Ndigbo are not needed as a part of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, hence the need to review the amalgamation that joined us all as one country called Nigeria.

4. Again, there will be no access road to distribute electoral materials in any polling unit in Igbo land. If the powers that be in Nigeria can't give Southeast presidency that which is duly our turn to rule the country like other extractions of the country have been given fair chances then Igbos will peacefully have no other option than to leave this union called Nigeria.

5. We want to use this medium to advise Ndigbo living in the Northern parts of Nigeria to immediately start taking their security very serious if APC and PDP deny Southeast presidential aspirants, adequate arrangements should be made for their return back home.

6. The World should bear in mind that this orchestrasted conspiracy against Southeast is over due, we cannot take it any longer as the struggle for the emancipation of our people starts now.

7. For the western world, we're aware that Ndigbo are their bread and butter, little wonder they aid incompetent people to govern Nigeria and Africa at large, so we can remain at their mercy. It is evidently clear that the hope of Africa lies in Nigeria, while the hope of Nigeria lies in Ala-Igbo and to liberate Nigeria lies in Nigeria President of Southeast extraction in 2023.

8. If the Northern people don't accept or believe in rotational presidency, there shouldn't be any reason for qouta system and federal character, because federal character has been the POLICY of sharing formula, it's solely the right of Southeast to produce the next president of Nigeria come 2023. We  are all  aware that if quota system is scrapped  that means that some  children  in Northern part of Nigeria will not compete favourably in education and in  federal limelight both in politics and civil service jobs. If the cut-off mark in secondary and university is kept according to merit, almost a good number of  children in the North cannot  access secondary and university education in Nigeria with the records of  poor outing at every entrance of National  examinations.

9. It's important to note that quota system and federal character have helped the Northern people of Nigeria. If the recruitment of Police, Immigration officers, Prison Officers, DSS, NSCDC,  Army, Navy, Custom, Fire Service, Road Safety and other security agencies are done on merit, the Northern part of Nigeria wouldn't have up to 20% in those agencies. If the recruitment is done by merit only Southern part of Nigeria will dominate and Southeast will make an impressive impact.  Southeast presidential project is "Sacrosanct", the North should stop shifting the goal post to suit them whenever it comes to issues that concerns equality and fairness of all Nigerians irrespective of where they come from.

10.The  experiences of the  South-east and how the region has been treated since the end of the "1966-1970 Genocide" suggests  that the Southeast is not part of Nigeria. The issues of Ministerial appointments is just to say, it's a tokenism to Ndigbo whose technocratic expertise is unequaled in Nigeria. What we get are certain ministerial appointments and that suggests tactical exclusion from the main running of Nigeria. The Southeast is not considered for ministerial appointments into Defense, Works, Power and other sensitive ones. Even when we are appointed into Education our highly learned people are made subordinate ministers. A laughable case was when Professor Anthony Anwuka was a junior minister to someone whose academic experience is miles away with that of the Professor. Appointments such as Inspector General of Police, Immigration Comptroller, Director of DSS, Chief of Naval Staff and so on are not meant for Igbos. To this effect Southeast wouldn't be part of such country with lopsided appointments anymore.

11. We have argued about the fake and false census population figure all as a conspiracy against Ndigbo, yet no one has challenged us that Ndigbo constitute a large number  of the total population of Nigeria. In all the states of this federation, if one removes the indigenous people , Ndigbo are  the second immediate largest number.  We challenge federal government of Nigeria to dispute this fact, by adding state of Origin during Census exercise. History and practical reality show that everywhere in the world those who live along the coastal regions are far more populated than those who live near the deserts yet in Nigeria these facts are turned upside down.

12. It's a fact that an average Igbo man doesn't need to be favoured before he can excel. We are in the markets and that entrepreneurial spirit is in us; the evidence is that  Ndigbo have done wonders  with £20 given to them as their only bank account balance  from 1970 till date after the civil war. What we need is a common level playing ground and not to be suspected , restricted or intimidated at every slightest opportunity. Social inequalities have now resulted in the demand by various parts of Southern Nigeria who demand for a peaceful break away from Nigeria. When you forcefully allow Injustice, Marginalization and Inequality become the other of the day in Nigeria, you also lack the moral right to demand that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable. We will not bore you with uncountable lists of countries who have peacefully separated and are doing well today. When people talk about separatist groups in Nigeria it's possible some are ideological while some are movements.

13. In the South-East for example the 95% of Ndigbo  are already disenchanted with the suffering and lack of equal opportunities in Nigeria. Therefore, demanding for Nigeria president of Southeast extraction remains crucial to the hearts of Igbos (the Southeast extraction) who are committed to make appeals to the rest of Nigerians to understand Ndigbo in the absence of which Nigeria would pushed Southeast away from the Federation. Let us recall that many people who today rewrite the facts of the 1966-1970 Genocide forget that this was how it started. Either the refusal to listen to the voice of reasoning or the discarding of an agreement as was the case in the Aburi Accord. Discarding the zoning principle and denying Southeast presidency  in 2023 is like discarding the "ABURI ACCORD" which came with a consequence. Therefore, there will be unavoidable consequences if Southeast is denied president of Nigeria in 2023.

14. The Council resolved that If Injustice and marginalization against the Southeast is what has now  characterised Nigeria as a country despite  Gen. Yakubu Gowon's fraudulent "No Victor No Vanquish", Then  there is no basis for  Nigeria's continuous Unity and  Southeast will not be part of Nigeria beyond 2023.

15. The Council, therefore, calls on well meaning Nigerians especially the North to understand that all the negative happenings in Nigeria especially insecurity are signs of "red flags" that requires urgent patriotic attention and call their political leaders to order by promoting peace and unity. The Northern, Southwest and South-South presidential Aspirants might pervert justice against Southeast and have the tickets yet there wouldn't be any Nigeria to govern. Their actions will to a large extent set Nigeria into extinction. To South-east political elites who constitute only 2% and who are openly and shamelessly sabotaging this clarion call of the Southeast and dare the curse of elders, we ask you to immediately retrace  your steps as our collective history as a people has never favoured those who sabotage us. We're keeping record and list of betrayal and Saboteurs in Igbo land. There will be an immediate consequences, such consequences will be remarkable and historical that No Igbo person in the next generation will dare to betrayal Ndigbo.

In Conclusion, we expect political actors in Nigeria to be extremely careful to avert explosion of Nigeria. It's truism that both Middle Belt, Core North, South-East, South West and  South-South have various dimensions of crisis unlike even what happened in 1966 that was one sided, yet it plugged Nigeria into flames. Today Nigeria is wearing a uniform of political and economic crisis, religious intolerance, Seperatist agitations. Nigeria must make a choice to include Southeast in Nigeria by considering the region for presidency in 2023 or push Southeast out of Nigeria, by denying the region the presidency in 2023.

"The essence of the museum that will soon be established by the state government is to warehouse, protect and preserve our artefacts and cultural heritage for posterity.

"It is a sad thing that proper attention is not paid to our history, our heritage. If we don't have our past together, we cannot have our present together and the future will remain uncertain," Ohia said.

He commended the National Commission for Museums and Monuments for its effort to repatriate our lost artefacts and thanked the Commission for the award, while promising to sustain the strategic partnership between the Commission and Imo State.

Mazi Ohia, dedicated the award to the State Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, and to the Omenimo Dance Troupe of Imo State Council for Arts and Culture.

He noted that the Commission has been achieving great success in its repatriation pursuit as Nigeria recently won her case and brought back a 600-year-old Ife Terracotta from the Netherlands.

Professor Tijani pointed out that there have been agreements with countries in Europe for the release of numerous priceless antiquities belonging to Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Professor Chidi Osuagwu of the Department of Industrial Biochemistry, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, said the event was to stimulate the interest of Imo people in the lives of our ancestors so as to guide the present generation to chart the future.

According to him: "Museums and symbols they represented are important towards understanding our world."

In a Lecture, Rev Dr Michael Ihemadu of the Imo State University, Owerri, said; "Museums educate us on where we are coming from; it is a repository of our historical heritage,  a reservoir of our history and culture."

He also lamented the removal of history from the teaching curriculum in Nigeria.

The theme for this year's celebration is "The Power of Museums". The day is an annual celebration marked globally.

MBAITOLI APC LEADERS TO UZODIMMA: CEDE SENATORIAL SLOT TO MBAITOLI - NAY, MBAIKE

        By Kingsley Ononuju (Ekwedashike)

As preparations for the forthcoming primary elections for state and national assemblies, get to fever pitch, it becomes necessary that certain sticking points, which might be counter productive  and  negatively affect the outcome of the process are highlighted and addressed exhaustively and impartially.

Let me start by declaring my implicit and unwavering confidence in the Governor, His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma and his ability to pilot the affairs of the State - this view reflects  the position of Mbaitoli APC leaders, who have vowed to continue to give the Governor and the party total support and mobilize the masses for more resounding electoral successes.

Without doubt, Mbaitoli -nay, MBAIKE as a constituency has the highest number of votes in Nigeria and given what the constituency brings to the table as a swing geopolitical area that determines, who wins in every election, it should be given commensurate recognition and favourable treatment but such is not the case as the federal constituency and particularly, Mbaitoli Local Government Area, unfortunately, does not receive fair treatment and commensurate reward for the role she  plays in determining the outcome of any election in the State and Nigeria.

Since 1999, it has been only late Distinguished Senator Ama Iwuagwu - a great son of Mbaitoli that was given the chance to run for the Senate seat of Owerri Zone, which he won but his representation was cut short due to his untimely death.

Thereafter, Mbaitoli Local Government Area remained marginalized and so to speak ostracized in the sharing and distribution of elective positions especially in the Senate.

I understand that the current APC State Chairman is from Owerri Federal Constituency, while the incumbent Senator representing Imo East Senatorial Zone is also from Owerri Federal Constituency though of a different party. Equally,  prior to the emergence of Onyewuchi, another Owerri Federal Constituency indigene in the person of Eze Ajoku also represented the zone in the Senate.

In the light of the foregoing, it will be absurd and beyond logic for another Owerri Federal Constituency indigene to represent the zone again in the Senate during this present dispensation.

For the sake of fairness, equity and moral justice, I appeal to the Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma to use his good offices, wisdom and political will to resolve this burning issue.

People of Mbaitoli Local Government feel shortchanged and also contend that this is their turn to produce the person that will represent Imo East Senatorial Zone on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the Senate.

The two sons of Mbaitoli, who have what it takes to win the election for the APC have made themselves available by purchasing the forms and scaling through the rigorous screening process. Any of the two can represent Imo East Senatorial Zone in the Senate.

Indeed, I am of the view that given our numerical strength, which is our bargaining chip, alongside our sister Local Government Area, Ikeduru we deserve better treatment. We are a formidable and decisive voting bloc, hence no sitting Governor can overlook that.

According to Victor Hugo: "Caution is the eldest son of wisdom," therefore, let the needful be done.

One thing incontrovertible is that Owerri Federal Constituency has had its fair share of producing candidates for the Senate, hence our caring and listening Governor will listen to this passionate plea.

A sitting arrangement that will have the party chairman and Senator representing Imo East Senatorial Zone coming from one Federal Constituency is unimaginable, unacceptable, unfathomable and tantamount to marginalization of the other Federal Constituencies comprising Imo East Senatorial Zone and "Fulanization" of the position.

While not undermining or denigrating the office of the Deputy Governor, I must however point out that it is not substantive and therefore should not be used by anyone or group to deny Mbaitoli the opportunity to produce the APC Senatorial candidate for Imo East Senatorial Zone this time.

I believe that there is ample chance and time for the right decision to be made and it is on that note that I make this passionate appeal on behalf of Mbaitoli APC leaders to the Governor,  Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. We need your intervention Sir. Ceding the Senatorial position to Mbaitoli will definitely assuage the pains inflicted by years of neglect and marginalization.

What I am asking for and on behalf of the other Mbaitoli APC leaders is not outlandish as it was such political brinkmanship that produced the candidacy of Achike Udenwa in 1999.

Martin Luther King once said: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly."

Indeed, justice for one is justice for all, I solemnly submit.

Ben Akaakar, Dele Farotimi, Dr. Katch Ononuju, Debrah Ogazuwa, Olutola Mobolurin, Christopher Aba, Audu Samuel Riko, Hon. Jonathan Tsaku, Joshua Bawa, Akwa Jeremiah and Ken Robinson, among others.

4.  The Meeting deliberated extensively on the State of Nation, particularly the worsening insecurity; the 2023 General Elections; and recent troubling developments in the polity.

5. Arising therefrom, the Forum:

i. Firmly reiterates its stance on the Principle of Zoning and Power Rotation between the North and the South, as the basis on which the Nigerian Federation has, since Independence, been premised.

ii. States, unequivocally, that the Zoning and Rotation of the Presidency of Nigeria are fundamental to the future existence of the Country.

iii.  Accordingly, condemns, in strongest terms, obvious schemes by the two main political parties, the PDP and APC, ahead of their Presidential Primaries, to jettison the time-honoured principle of Rotation, which has traditionally served as the glue holding the Federal Republic of Nigeria together.

iv.   Warns that the reported permutations by the main political parties to foist Northern Presidential Candidates on the nation would be a grave misadventure, with grim consequences on national concord and harmony.

v. Therefore, calls on all delegates of all political parties, and true lovers of democracy, as a sacred obligation, to reject Presidential Aspirants, or Candidates, from the North, and only vote for those from the South in the Party Primaries.

vi. Calls on all politicians and professionals from the South not to accept, on any account, the position of Vice President, as that would amount to a shameful committal of present and future generations of Southern Nigeria to senseless political vassalage.

vii. Further insists that, in observance of the principles of justice, equity, fairness and political inclusiveness, the South, and particularly, the South East Zone, being the third leg on which Nigeria’s political trajectory had revolved, should produce the next President of the Country in 2023. Insists that this would bring the Igbo quest for full reintegration and reconciliation, since the end of the Civil War in 1970, to full realisation.

viii.  SMBLF commends a number of northern governors who have demonstrated great patriotism by their public support for the rotation of the presidency to the South; to name a few, Malam Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State, Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, OFR of Kano State. While equally urging other well-meaning northern leaders, who believe in the oneness of Nigeria, to support this cause, because therein lies the unity and progress of Nigeria.

ix. On the worsening state of insecurity and rampaging violence across the country, Forum warns that Nigeria is plummeting into a state of total disorder and lawlessness, with attacks on innocent people resulting in kidnapping, loss of lives and destruction of properties happening in different parts of the country almost daily.

Sadly, the Federal Government and its Security Agencies are not doing enough to arrest the situation, whereby people can no longer travel safely either by road, rail or even by air to Kaduna State in particular.

It is not only frightening but unimaginable that despite the heavy presence of military commands and installations in the State there could be such security challenges.

Cites the bombing of the Kaduna-Abuja bound train over 60 days ago as well as the brazen attack on motorists on the Abuja-Kaduna Road about two days ago. On both occasions, innocent lives were lost while several people were wounded with many abducted. Undesirably, most of those who were kidnapped are still in the terrorists’ captivity after 60 days.

x. Forum condemns, in unmistakable terms, the killing of Miss Deborah Samuel Yakubu, a student of the College of Education, Sokoto, by her Muslim schoolmates and the wild spread of violence that engulfed the state, following the arrest of two of her killers. Denounces the worrisome disregard for the inviolability of human life by terrorists, criminals and religious extremists in the country.

xi. Likewise, strongly condemns the recent burning to death of a young man, a Sound Engineer, by commercial motorcyclists in Lagos, as well as the spree of killings and wanton destruction of properties and businesses owned by Southerners, particularly the occurrence, few days, at Dei Dei Market in Abuja.

xii. Decries the unabating killings and destruction of livelihoods in the Middle Belt Region, especially in Southern Kaduna, Southern Borno, Southern Gombe, Benue, Taraba, etc, and the inaction of the Federal Government to live up to its Constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the lives and properties of its citizens.

xiii. Classifies these killings and pervasive acts of aggression on the indigenous people, being perpetrated by elements of Islamic Extremism and Terrorists, as cultural genocide and ethnic cleansing. The Meeting cautions that these bellicosities and deliberate programs to exterminate the indigenous populations of the Middle Belt are, by implication, acts of aggression against the rest of Nigeria, and would not be tolerated any further.

xiv.   Deplores the inhuman plight of the 1,700 indigenous people of Southern Kaduna driven out of their homes and have now become Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for over five years as well as several other Internally Displaced Persons in different parts of the country, left to live in conditions that impinge on their human rights as citizens of this Country. Hence, calls on the Federal Government to, without delay, facilitate the return and reintegration of these Nigerians into their Communities.

5. The Meeting resolved to resist, through all legitimate means, the barefaced attempts by religious fundamentalists to impose on the rest of us, a Nigeria of “one country, different laws”.

6. The Meeting reaffirmed the commitment of the people of Southern Nigeria and the Middle Belt to the RESTRUCTURING of the Country, in tandem with the Principles of True Federalism, as was established by the Founding Fathers of Nigeria.

7. Done in Abuja, this 19th day of May, 022.

Signed:

1. Chief (Dr.) Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, OFR, CON

Leader

2023: I'll give qualitative representation, unprecedented development not cash - Akarachi assures MBAIKE

By Ben AHANONU

The front-runner in the race for Mbaitoli-Ikeduru ( MBAIKE) Federal Constituency seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and founder of Akarachi Foundation, Engineer Akarachi Amadi has said that he wants to be a man for his people by giving qualitative representation and attracting unprecedented developmental projects not cash to MBAIKE.

            Engineer Akarachi Amadi

Engr Akarachi stated this during a meeting he had with leaders and delegates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ikeduru Local Government Area, LGA, chapter, Friday, at the ultramodern Cyprain Iwuamadi Hall, Eziama, Ikeduru, Imo State.

He thanked the leaders and delegates for their support describing his father as his leader. He also described Ikeduru as his home hence, nobody can intimidate him.

He said: "Pay Charlvon his payback and Akarachi his own otherwise Akarachi is being cheated because Akarachi is not Charlvon."

He appealed to the delegates to deliver him by the grace of God during the primary election stressing that he cannot play with his people and his God. He apologized to the leaders of Ikeduru for not coming around often to meet with them because he has been busy going to the people and described himself as a long distance runner due to the fact that for long, he has been preparing for the election.

Engr Amadi, who expressed gratitude to the leaders and delegates for their show of support and solidarity said he is only asking for a productive partnership with the people, which will be of great benefit to MBAIKE.

He reeled out his accomplishments so far in MBAIKE including the yearly football tournament for MBAIKE youths sponsored by Akarachi Foundation with the sum of N25 million naira,  payment of Joint Admissions and Matriculation (JAMB), University Matriculation Examination (UME) fee for over 500 MBAIKE sons and daughters, attraction of roads from the Niger Delta Development Commission through his connections as a flourishing businessman, promising to do more if elected as the member representing MBAIKE in the Federal House of Representatives on the platform of the APC.

Speaking earlier, Prince Charls Amadi said the essence of the meeting is for the progress and good of Ikeduru APC Family.

He equally appealed to the people present not to allow the family to have a crack and debunked the rumour that Akarachi Amadi has stepped down.

In his words: " Let us remain as one."

In his reaction, Hon. Okey Ezuruike urged the people to support Akarachi because he has what it takes to turn things around. He pointed out that what Akarachi has done so far including construction of many roads is an indication of what is to come to MBAIKE when he gets elected.

He said Charlvon is relevant and synonymous with APC and extolled him for being accessible and a wonderful leader.

Hon. Ezuruike, further described Akarachi as a dynamic and vibrant achiever, who is very capable and urged the people to give total support by ensuring that Akarachi gets elected.

Prof Ajumbe while speaking urged the delegates to vote for Akarachi Amadi and   extolled  the Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, for doing a great job in Imo State especially the solid roads he has constructed. He promised to give total support to Akarachi because he stands for what is right.

Engr Nshirim urged Akarachi not to disappoint  MBAIKE when he gets elected as nothing will stop him and called on the delegates to do the needful by voting for Akarachi, whom he described as a blessing to Mbaitoli and Ikeduru given what he has done so far.

Dr Teddy Oguike, said MBAIKE people are all witnesses to what Akarachi has done so far  and stressed that people must separate Akarachi from Charlvon because Akarachi is a complete different entity with tremendous energy and capacity to deliver on democracy dividends, adding that Akarachi is his  candidate. He also promised to cast his vote for him.

In her contribution, Mrs Shirley Amaonu ( the Ancient Queen) from Mbaitoli and board member, National Council of Women's Societies, NCWS, disclosed that she came out of political retirement mainly because of Akarachi Amadi's political ambition. She described Akarachi as her son, whom she said is highly cerebral with immense capacity to deliver.

The meeting was well-attended by dignitaries and political bigwigs too numerous to mention, from across the length and breadth of Ikeduru Local Government Area in solidarity with Akarachi project.

KINGSLEY ONONUJU: AN INTRIGUING STORY OF RESILIENCE

                 Kingsley Ononuju Esq.

By Ben AHANONU

Hon. Barrister Kingsley Chigozie Ononuju, the unassuming, meticulous and  hard working man, who is never afraid of challenges and new tasks, is the son of late Hon. Justice Anthony Ononuju - (an erudite and incorruptible High Court Judge from the Ekwedashike lineage, in Ogwa, Mbaitoli, Local Government Area, Imo State) and Mrs Alice Ononuju.

He had his primary and secondary educational training in Imo State, before proceeding to Lagos for his university education.

Barr Ononuju, is a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria with many years of exciting legal practice, having graduated from the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG) and consequently attended the Nigerian Law School, after which, he was called to bar.

He had a stint at the logistics group of the Nigerian Airforce, Ikeja, where he began honing a rewarding career.

The Ijaw aborigines of Bayelsa State, cannot forget Hon. Barrister Kingsley Ononuju and his team, who through an outstanding display of brilliance and compelling legal argument, won a $1.5 billion landmark case for the Ijaws in a dispute with Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC),over oil pollution and environmental degredation, before further appeals.

Apart from the fact that he was once a state counsel, he also provided legal services with his firm, to the Federal Ministry of Justice on prison decongestion in Nigeria in 2006.

His legal experience and practice, earned him certification from many institutions, organizations, corporate bodies and agencies like the British Council, Settlement House etc in Dispute and Conflict Resolution.

Barr. Ononuju, who has travelled far and wide, is an honorary citizen of New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, as conferred on him by the then City Mayor, in appreciation of his contributions to human development, legal profession, governance and partnership.

With Kayceeve Transworld and Holdings - contracting and procurement firms registered in Nigeria and members of  the World Trade Organization (WTO), Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Owerri Chamber of Commerce; he left his footprints in the sands of time, at a very tender age and which, gave him the sobriquet, "The Guvnor."

Because of his desire to support the government in its efforts to develop the agricultural sector,  Barr Ononuju branched out into cassava farming and value addition after his training tour of Southeast Asia; where he, obtained requisite training and for that purpose, he has established Kayceeve Industries, while looking out for potential investors in the area under Public Private Partnership (PPP), in order to help enhance the Nigerian economy and create employment opportunities via the cassava value chain and attendant derivatives.

However, the tremendous efforts he put in to get the project off the ground, was hampered by the harsh and unfriendly business climate in Imo State, during the Okorocha administration.

Meantime, he is working tirelessly to it get back on track.

His foray into public service and politics, brought him close to the likes of late Eze Igbo gburugburu, Ikemba Odumegwu - Ojukwu (who described him as a young man with a keen sense of measure), Senator Ben Obi, late Alhaji Bashir Tofa, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, late Dr Kusamatu etc.  That was during the era of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and National Republican Convention (NRC). He also had very close relationship with former President Obasanjo, as one of his boys in Otta before he became and even while he was President. He also coordinated for Chief Engineer Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu in Lagos State, when he was running for the position of President of Nigeria.

At the presidency, he became Special Assistant to the head of New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) Nigeria, in charge of infrastructural development, legal adviser and presidential liaison.

Barr. Ononuju, later became coordinator of NEPAD for the southeast and Special Adviser to the Imo State Government under Gov. Ikedi Ohakim, on NEPAD.

Upon assumption of duties and responsibilities as head of NEPAD in Imo State, he met only three staff.

However, through his ingenuity and burning desire to enhance smooth operation of NEPAD and African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Imo State and Nigeria, he created four directorates and employed 28 staff in addition to the 27 local government coordinators, whom he increased their salary from N30,000 to N250,000 (equivalent to the salary of supervisory councillors then) all with the authorization of Governor Ikedi Ohakim.

Barr Ononuju, ensured that the intake were trained adequately to understand the nitty-gritty of the project for positive service delivery.

These efforts were aimed at institutionalizing NEPAD as a major framework for sustainable economic development in Imo State and Nigeria.

While with NEPAD, he made unrivalled accomplishments, and was christined "Mr NEPAD," in recognition of his inventive leadership qualities.

As the Southeast zonal coordinator of NEPAD, he brought eminent persons like the former President of Sierra Leone, Ahmad Tejan Kabah, Ambassador Kip Largath, all the southeast governors and other prominent leaders to Owerri, for the 2008 epic Peer Review Mechanism to ensure that Nigeria remains one of the credible countries, practising democracy in Africa and the APRM headquarters for the southeast, was in Owerri.

Barr Ononuju initiated Investment Partnership between Imo State and Taiwanese governments and was member of NEPAD's pan-African Cassava-Agro Investment Training Tour of Southeast Asia, with China, Malaysia and Thailand in focus under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) of the NEPAD framework.

The trip, benefitted many Imo businessmen and establishments including, ABC Transport, Chief Tony Chukwu of ROUDO, who through the investment partnership, acquired dredging machines and other equipment from China; Chief Okey Ikoro of Camela Oil and Chief Vitalis Ajumbe of BEATON Studio, who acquired high-tech digital recording machines and computers.

Under NEPAD framework, Barr Ononuju, got certificated on Peer Review Mechanism with emphasis on national reformation. He also won best practices award of excellence in poverty eradication following the publication of his treatise on Family Economic Empowerment Development Strategy (FEEDS), as panacea for the problem of poverty.

Hon. Kingsley Ononuju, was key facilitator for the World Bank Investment Fund under Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP), geared towards the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads,  which gave birth to Imo Rural Roads Maintenance Agency (IRROMA) as financed by the World Bank and this was possible because of right government framework.

Incontrovertibly, his achievements and attainments with NEPAD, are so many that a short piece as this, will not be enough to capture all.

In politics proper, it was Hon. Barrister Kingsley Ononuju, who used his good offices to sell the candidacy of late Evan Enwerem as Senate President to former President Obasanjo, because he was a trusted aide and did same for Senator Pius Anyim.

On two occasions, he was an aspirant for Mbaitoli-Ikeduru (MBAIKE) Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives i.e. 2011 and 2019.

He was a member of the Strategic Working Committee appointed by the Imo State Government during the Ohakim administration - and worked round-the-clock to engender good governance  encapsulating the four cardinal principles of democracy and political governance, corporate governance, economic governance and socio-economic development, with due process and the rule of law.

He was also the Secretary, Imo Trade and Investment - a special agency of the government of Rochas Okorocha, with the aim of promoting business and attracting Direct Foreign Investment (DFI) to the state economy but he left because of lack of transparency on the part of the then governor. He is still a member of cassava growing and processing association in Imo State.

Barr Ononuju, was the past Chairman of Imo All Progressives Congress (APC) Disciplinary Committee from 2016-2018; member, Imo APC 2018 Convention Committee to Abuja; member, APC 2019 Presidential Election Planning and Monitoring Directorate and Imo State APC Director of Electoral Matters for the 2019 general election.

He was the first Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the government of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma and later was appointed the Commissioner for Special Projects.

Because of his zero tolerance for misrule, Barr Ononuju and Dr T.O.E. Ekechi as conveners alongside others, started Imo Restoration Coalition against former  Governor Rochas Okorocha. It was the coalition that fought and exposed Okorocha's misdeeds.

He was also the General Secretary of Owerri Zone Political Leaders Forum, OZOPOLF. Although defunct, the platform, which was chaired by Prince Charls Amadi, but managed by Hon. Barr Ononuju as per its activities, galvanized Owerri Zonal political consciousness.

Pursuant to his firm belief in justice and equity, and as a man, who takes good character and integrity as paramount ingredients that should make up the content of any individual and everything in life, Barr Ononuju and  his colleague, Hon. Barr Uche Onyeagocha, founded the Imo Equity Movement across the 27 local government areas of the state, tailored towards stopping Okorocha's inordinate ambition to impose his son-in-law on Imo, for further entrenchment of misrule. Recall that amongst other trials, Hon Barr Ononuju, was also kidnapped to be killed because of his advocacy for good governance and political equity.

It might interest you to know that, Hon. Barr Ononuju, who is a native of Ishi Ogwa, Mbaitoli, equally holds the chieftaincy title of Ezinwa of Ishi Ogwa, as conferred on him by his community  under the leadership of His Royal Highness, (HRH) Eze George Ihenacho (PhD), the current Eze Ogwa 1, of Ishi Ogwa. He is also, the Life President of Mbaitoli Diamond Club; Chairman, Ishi Ogwa Development Council and leader in Mbaitoli Stakeholders Forum.

Through the Ekwedashike Co-operative and Ochii Ogwa Co-operative, which are initiatives of Barrister Kingsley Ononuju, over 500 women from Owerri Zone, have obtained non-interest loans, offered by the Bank of Industry for Women Empowerment, amongst other philanthropic gestures too many to mention, including giving money to the poor and downtrodden in his locality and beyond, to enable them find means of livelihood.
