Woman Detained For Kidnapping Newborn At Naming Ceremony In Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a woman for allegedly stealing a 7-day-old baby girl during the child’s naming ceremony in the Keffi Local Government Area.

According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, released on Sunday, September 29, 2024, the suspect has been pretending to be pregnant.

“On September 28, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, police operatives from the Keffi Division arrested Khadija Aliyu for the theft of a seven-day-old baby girl during a naming ceremony in Keffi,” the Public Relations Officer reported.

The suspect attended the ceremony held behind the INEC office in Keffi while claiming to be expecting a child. During the event, she reportedly sneaked into the house, took the baby who was sleeping, concealed her under a veil, and fled before being apprehended.
