Airlines operators warn of imminent disruptions to flights over fuel

The Airlines Operators of Nigeria (AON) has warned that the flight operations of its members may experience disruptions due to a growing scarcity of aviation fuel (Jet-A1).


According to statement signed by AON’s spokesperson Prof. Obiora Okonkwo “The scarcity is impacting negatively on seamless conduct of air transport operations and would lead to flight rescheduling, and, or, cancellations.”


"working very hard, and in alliance with product marketers, government and relevant stakeholders, to ensure availability and proper pricing of aviation fuel in the country.




“While pleading the understanding of the flying public in the face of this reality, we also promise to do all that is necessary, and within our powers, to restore normal flight schedules as soon as possible.”


The AON last week had threatened to shutdown operations over the rising cost of Jet-A1.


The shutdown was called off after the Federal Government intervened.


AON members on May 9 met with the leadership of the House of Representatives and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).


The NNPC at the meeting pledged to make available six million litres of JetA1 to aviation fuel marketers chosen by the AON as part of efforts to temporarily resolve the crisis.

NYSC IS IN NEED OF URGENT REFORMATION OR DISSOLUTION

By Ben AHANONU  The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a mandatory, post-tertiary education scheme, established by Decree No. 24 of May 22nd, 1973,  by the military administration of Gowon as a post-civil war initiative aimed at promoting national unity and integration.  Since 1973, graduates of Nigerian universities, and polytechnics under the age of 30,  have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps programme for one year and Ahmadu Ali served as the first Director-General (DG) of the NYSC until 1975. Alleged land grabbing in Ohaji-Egbema: I have never, will never grab land - Nlemigbo

  The Chairman and Chief Executive of MARCON Group, Barrister (Prince) M. O.  Nlemigbo has refuted the allegation that he grabbed land at Nkaraha, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area (LGA), describing it as calculated propagation of falsehood and a futile attempt to tarnish his image and hard-earned reputation by an ingrate called Chinedu Akpaelu and his fictitious group of misfits that benefitted from his scholarship programme but now masking under the aegis of an unknown and non-existent Ohaji-Egbema Youth Movement, OEYM, to accuse him of what he knows nothing about and has nothing to do with.
