Imo public servants receive free emergency first aid training

 



In view of the widespread insecurity in the country and daily emergencies that could arise anywhere including offices, the Nigerian Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Office of the Head of Service, Imo State recently trained about thirty (30) selected public servants on emergency response.


Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2-day Free Emergency First Aid Training, the State Chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Chima Keke said the programme was part of efforts by the Nigerian Red Cross to impact basic first aid skills to public servants, who would in turn offer humanitarian services in times of emergencies especially in the offices and wherever they find themselves.


Prince Keke, disclosed that Imo State branch of Red Cross Society has over 2,500 volunteers covering all the 27 Local Government Areas of the State on humanitarian and emergency activities; while also managing the the Owerri Motherless Babies Home, which is the oldest orphanage in the State. 


He however stressed the the need for increased partnership and support for humanitarian services within the State , pointing out that escalating crisis in the region require everyone to at least know what to do, and at the appropriate time if emergency situation occurs.  He further disclosed that the organization has packages that offer further training in Emergency First Aid and urged participants to put the knowledge acquired to effective use.



In his goodwill message, the Head of Service Imo State, Dr. Chibuzo Iwuagwu commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for their continued commitment to rendering humanitarian services in times of emergencies in the State.


He noted that the trainees would be veritable tools for saving lives in emergency situations and urged them to make the best use of the opportunity offered them by the Nigerian Red Cross Society.


The training module covered the management of a wide range of health emergency situations including, stroke, fainting, epilepsy, chocking, poisoning, anaphilaxis, bleeding, burns, among others.


The lecture and demonstration session was conducted by the Branch Training Officer, Mr. Uzoma Kizito, who expressed satisfaction at the zeal exhibited by the participants during the training.
