Drunken Zambian Policeman Frees 13 Prisoners to Celebrate New Year

The 13 suspects had been in detention near Kanyama, in the country’s south, facing charges including assault, affray, and theft. Detective Inspector Titus Phiri “forcibly seized cell keys” on Tuesday morning whilst “in a state of intoxication,” Zambia’s Police Service said in a press release on Wednesday, January 1. “Subsequently, (Phiri) unlocked both the male and female cells and instructed the suspects to leave, stating they were free to cross over into the New Year,” the police statement said. Bashar al-Assad and his family have fled to Russia and are reportedly staying in Moscow, after rebels seized control of Syria.
